WSL predictions: Gameweek 11

The Women’s Super League (WSL) returns from the winter break this weekend, offering six action-packed games over three days.

There is currently a lot to beat at the top of the WSL table, with Manchester City, Arsenal and Manchester United trying to keep up. Both Crystal Palace and Leicester City are in a tight arm wrestle at the bottom of the table, with West Ham United not far away.

The Etihad Stadium is preparing to host the Manchester derby and to the south the stage is set for two London derbies as West Ham take on Chelsea and Arsenal take on Crystal Palace.

This season’s surprise package Brighton & Hove Albion will be looking to continue their impressive run when they travel to St Helen’s Stadium to take on Liverpool on Friday evening.

Dario Vidosic’s Seagulls side will be hoping they can maintain their top-five ambition ahead of the game on Merseyside. As for Liverpool, Matt Beard’s side will be looking to make amends for their disappointing start to the 2024/25 season. The Reds currently sit eighth in the league standings, but a weak record of nine points leaves them just four points behind the bottom.

Prediction: Liverpool 1-3 Brighton

Two struggling teams will face off this Saturday when Everton host Aston Villa at Walton Hall Park. Despite only having eight points to their name, the Toffees pulled off one of the WSL’s biggest first-half upsets by beating Man City in their final game before the Christmas break.

Following the sacking of Robert de Pauw last month, Aston Villa are enduring a turbulent period as interim coach Shaun Goater prepares to take the reins.

The Villans have been less than stellar so far in the 2024/25 season and currently only have nine points to their name despite an impressive summer transfer window.

Brian Sorensen’s Everton side are boosted by winter signings and are keen to challenge Villa on home soil.

Prediction: Everton 2-2 Aston Villa

Despite the large gap between the two teams in the league standings, Tottenham and Leicester City are separated by just five points heading into this game at Brisbane Road Stadium. The teams met eight times, with the Foxes only managing one win in all encounters.

At the start of the season, Spurs fans were quick to question head coach Robert Vilahamn’s philosophy, but the team’s performance in the league standings has been anything but disappointing. They currently sit sixth in the WSL table and a win against the struggling Foxes will certainly boost morale in north London.

Amandine Miquel’s side have only managed one win so far this season and are just one point clear of last place. The Foxes will need to show their teeth against Spurs’ defensive deficiencies if they are to add momentum to their 2024/25 season. However, squad strength will continue to be a problem for Miquel on his trip to the capital.

Prediction: Tottenham 3-1 Leicester City

The outstanding Gunners started 2025 in a good mood. Arsenal have not lost a game since last October and will be favorites again this weekend.

Bottom-placed Crystal Palace will be desperate to grab a point from the tie, but the chances are slim. Palace suffered back-to-back defeats against top teams this season, losing 7-0 to Chelsea and 3-0 to Manchester City.

Arsenal are expected to maintain their excellent form when they return to Meadow Park this Sunday.

Prediction: Arsenal 4-0 Crystal Palace

A London derby awaits at the Chigwell Construction Stadium as West Ham United prepare to host Chelsea. The Irons have done enough to move away from the bottom of the table but are still just three points clear of the drop zone.

Chelsea dropped their first points of the 2024/25 season just before the Christmas break after Sonia Bompastor’s winning streak came to an end with a hard-fought 1-1 draw against Leicester City.

West Ham have done well to challenge the Blues with close results in the past, but have failed to secure a win against their London rivals in 15 meetings.

Prediction: West Ham 0-2 Chelsea

A Manchester derby awaits at the Etihad Stadium as the Cityzens look to avenge their league performance against their city rivals. Gareth Taylor has been plagued by injuries and is hoping his side can overcome the turbulent months.

As for Man United, a win against their city opponents will see them move into the top three of the league. Marc Skinner’s side have injury luck on their side and will be hoping to take advantage of a wounded Man City side ahead of the clash.

Although the Cityzens would normally go into derby day as favourites, it could be that United grab a result and put Cityzens in the shade.

Prediction: Manchester City 1-2 Manchester United
